DAY # 1 - ARRIVALS, SALT LAKE CITY
Airport transfers are provided to our Salt Lake City hotel. Our special welcome dinner will be at the Roof Restaurant – with panoramic views of the city – in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Overnight: Red Lion Inn, Salt Lake City. (D)

DAY # 2 - ANTELOPE CANYON STATE PARK
Before departing for our Silver State Adventure, we’ll visit Salt Lake City’s premiere natural site: Antelope Island State Park on the Great Salt Lake. We’ll stop at the Visitor Center where a park ranger will introduce us to the unique ecosystem of this inland salt sea. We’ll have an opportunity to view wildlife on the island including buffalo, deer, antelope, coyote, waterfowl and more. Scenic Buffalo Point offers spectacular views of the lake and the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. Overnight: Hampton Inn, Elko, NV. (B)

DAY # 3 - CALIFORNIA TRAILS CENTER, LIVING HISTORY, NATIVE DANCERS
The next two days are given over to the interpretive events commemorating the great North American migrations of the 19th century. Events include an 1850 Wagon Encampment and Shoshone Summer Camp, interpretive presentations and the amazing California Trail Interpretive Center itself. We’ll get a glimpse of pioneer life along the trail and Native American culture come to life! Experience historic displays, special presentations throughout the day. Overnight: Hampton Inn, Elko, NV. DAY # 4 - LAMOILLE CANYON, TRAILS DAYS ACTIVITIES, DUTCH OVEN COOKOUT
The festivities continue today, but we will also make time to visit the area’s most scenic area, Lamoille Canyon, under the expert leadership of a local guide. Also included are a visit to a historic Spanish-American saddle shop, before ending the day with an authentic Dutch Oven cookout just as the pioneers would have experience on the trail. DAY # 5 - NEVADA NORTHERN RAILWAY MUSEUM & YARDS, TRAIN RIDE, RENAISSANCE VILLAGE
Today we head south to the White Pine town of Ely where a real treat awaits us. History is actually alive at the Nevada Northern Rail Yard which contains over 60 pieces of rolling stock, including two working steam engines over 100 years old. The tour includes a ride down the track, and a visit to the amazing restored Renaissance Village, which once housed railroad workers and other Ely residents. Each home has been restored to portray different ethnic backgrounds showcasing the diversity of cultures that settled the area. The French, English, Spanish, Slovakian, Asian, Greek, and Italian heritages are all represented. Dinner tonight is at the unique Cell Block Steakhouse – a holdover from the mining days. DAY # 6 - TRAVEL - TOPAZ WWII JAPANESE INTERNMENT CAMP
One of dozens of Japanese Internment Camps established in the Western US during World War II, the Topaz Camp in Utah opened in September of 1942. Our visit opens an unbiased look at what life was like for detainees. Back In Salt Lake City we’ll enjoy a festive farewell dinner to cap off our pioneer adventure. See pioneer life along the trail and Native American culture come to life as we participate in the Annual Trail Days Event in Elko, Nevada. The excellent California Trail Interpretive Center hosts an 1850 Wagon Encampment and Shoshone Summer Camp. We’ll also explore Nevada’s railroad heritage at Ely’s famous Northern Nevada rail yard, which not only preserves 19th century equipment and track, but also the homes of its workers, representing many ethnic groups and lifestyles. Includes a special ride on an authentic steam train.
